This is the same Flash preloader I use on my homepage, except unlocked so you can use it to load your own Flash animations! If you use it, all I ask is that you let me know so I can see where it travels!
To use it, download the little 27K .swf file to the right. (One way to do this is go to the raw file and then Save the page - it will save the .swf.) Set up your HTML object and embed tags as you would for your target .swf but refer to Jirosoft_Spirodelic_Loader.swf instead. Then, set up flashvars parameters (in both object and embed tags) with these variables:
| loadUrl | set this to the name of the .swf you want to load |
| loadFramerate | set this to the frame rate of the .swf you want to load |
| spiroRadius | set this to somewhat under half the smaller dimension of your .swf -- note that the progress bars extend wide not tall |
| spiroPoints | the number of control radials, should be a multiple of spiroLevels |
| spiroLevels | the number of sub-radii, should divide evenly into spiroPoints |
e.g.:
loadUrl=MyCoolFlash.swf&loadFramerate=12&spiroRadius=125&spiroPoints=90&spiroLevels=3
Once everything's in place, the preloader will show the progress of your .swf load. Once complete, the preloader will display your .swf in place of the graphics!
This pro bono project is the first time I used my OctaVista web content springboard to build a website for someone else. The site is ostensibly a blog but it's my friend's knack for bizarre and outrageous commentary that makes it more than a blog. And despite many broken promises, it is my failure to provide a comment interface that makes it less than a blog (sorry, Chris, but I run out of hours in a day! Ahhhg, I'm a bad friend!) In any case, check it out at www.theneoluddite.net.
Contributions: Expanded on client's initial design concept to produce banner frame and logo design. Implemented site via OctaVista.
